Tomorrow morning we’ll leave for Düsseldorf airport and then ’round 2 pm we’ll fligh high to Rhodos 😉 Within a few moments Britt will be here to pack our suitcase (yes we share one, that’s cheaper.. told you we’re Dutch? ;-)) and she’ll stay for dinner. We will bake pancakes! The pictures are a reminder of what happened last time we did that..
Today I cleaned my whole room with my mom and that was só necessary 😉 Since I live most of the time in my student house in Groningen, my room back home has become a safety home for all homeless dust! So we cleaned and tidied it all just before I would leave for Greece next Sunday. I had to sort everything out, all my old magazines etc. While doing that I stored them at my desk and thought it was worth a picture. Well.. they’re only my fashion magazines 😉 Glamour appears to be my favourite!
Now I’m off for some quality time with the girls, we’re gonna do some delicious cooking and will have some good talks! =)
Lately I’m pretty much interested in workouts and healthy living. I’ve always wanted to be ‘that sporty’ girl, you know.. with the perfect body, lifestyle and who’s really fit. There were times that I was really close to this but last year I hardly did a thing and that’s reflected in my body and fitness now!
I love to get inspiration to exercise just a little bit harder and to try new things every now and then. So I click around on the Internet like a maniac ;-). Here are some of my favourites, they’re not that much yet but it’s a good start!
First of all: Do you already know Karena and Katrina’s website ‘Tone it up‘? Those two California girls are real gurus (you definitely have to check out their youtube channel as well), on their blog they share their new video workouts, healthy recipes and, best of all, they motivate you and adjust their blogposts and workouts to recent events. Not just ‘bikini workouts’ but also plans to detox your body after family weekends full of eating (Independece day? ;-)) and background information for example about metabolism. I admit: it is all a bit commercial, but.. to be honest girls: I am sure there is no girlier looking fitness website out there, it really makes me feel like us girls run the world! 😉
Then we’ve also got Sarah from SarahFit she has – as Karena and Katrina – both a youtube channel and a website. Hers looks a little less motivating and girly but at the same time much less commercial, which I also love. I like that even though she is slim and toned, she has muscles in e.g. her legs which makes them look bigger.. that’s a problem I have as well (not that I am as slim as she is but I have always trouble with mostly my legs and shoulders since I simply have a lot of muscles there which sometimes makes them look ‘big’). My favourite videos of her which I discovered until now are How to get skinny looking legs and How to lose love handles.
I would love to hear about your favourite workouts maybe videos, websites.. also websites on healthy cooking etc. I’m really into this now! Sharing is sexy!
I’m off for some running workout now! 😉
Last week I went to Nijmegen for its famous four day’s marches. I was there from Wednesday till Friday and stayed at a friend’s place who studies there. The walking-thing may be famous but so are the parties! During the day there are everywhere across the city small bands and in the evenings there are big tents with music. We went to the ‘silent disco’ which was pretty cool, I’ve actually always wanted to go to one but never had the opportunity to really do it. It was lots of fun, really! When you put off your headphones you hear everyone singing along incredibly false, haha. So I would definitely recommend you to visit one if you’ve got the chance!
Lately I picked up the ‘running thing’ again and at the moment I try to do at least 2 running sessions of about 5-6 kms a week. Since the weather here in the Netherlands (and a huge part of Europe) is not that motivating I thought a good cardio playlist might do the trick ;-). Find it here on youtube.
Whole playlist and some additional comments to the songs I chose:
(Girls) Who run the world – Beyoncé Well, I guess a song couldn’t possibly be any better for a running workout, am I right girls?! We’ve got the power!
Killer on the run – Bruno Mars Again a pretty nice word-joke. Imagine someone that really drove you nuts and put all your energy in chasing him. And… remember: you’re getting thinner and more toned by doing this, so win-win situation, he’ll regret whatever he has done to you!
Boom boom pow – Black Eyed Peas Simply a catchy, upbeat and cheering song. You’ve got the flow by now, boom boom pow!
Can’t stop – Red Hot Chili Peppers Like I said: you’ve got the flow!
Born to run – Bruce Springsteen This song couldn’t be neglected of course.
Runnin’ – Jesse McCartney Long time ago I listened to his songs, but this one is definitely very suitable.
Boulevard of broken dreams – Green Day “I walk a lonely road, the only on that I have ever known” is how the song starts. Call me weird but it made me think of the scene in ‘What women want’ when they’re talking about the feeling of beating the road early in the morning (as a promotion for Nike). And I guess it’s true.. that feeling is great, besides that it’s a lovely and catchy song.
Club can’t handle me – Flo Rida Upbeat, perfect for a nice sing along and imagine once again how powerful and beautiful you’re about to become with this discipline! Surely that the club won’t be able to handle you soon!
Fucking Perfect – Pink …Always rememeber: you are pretty the way you are, it’s very important to love yourself and see this running thing as a way to improve yourself even more. Allow Pink to be your mental coach!
Fighter – Christina Aguilera I know working out can be a huge challenge for yourself every now and then and asks for much discipline… but now that you’re doing it, don’t you feel like you’re a fighter?!
Fat bottomed girls – Queen Haha I came along this one and ain’t it the most awesome running song for us fat bottomed girls? 😛 Nice motivator to tone up your butt into a J.Lo-one!
One more – SuperChick Well, besides the fact that you can easily run one more round, her name is pretty awesome as well. And it reflects what we running girls are: Super chicks!
Like a G6 – Far East Movement Most club songs are very suitable for a running playlist too, since they’re most of the time upbeat, motivating and catchy. Well.. run like a G6 baby and get ready for a better next clubbing night!
Only girl in the world – Rihanna Makes you feel unique and you can refer this one back to the story about hitting the road when you’re alone, early in the morning.
Dirrty – Christina Aguilera Just interpretate the lyrics a little bit different 😉 “Sweat until my clothes come off … Wanna get dirrty, It’s about time for my arrival, Ah, heat is up, so ladies, fellas, drop your cups, body’s hot, front to back, now move your ass, I like that”.
Sweet dreams – Eurythmics This song of all songs makes me feel like moving the most.
Pump it – Black Eyed Peas Oh this song is só great for running! Makes me feel happy, feel like moving and makes my heart beat just a little bit faster pumping the blood through my veins boosting me with just a little more energy than usual.
Rock your body – Justin Timberlake Yeah.. move your body and create a stunning silhouette. Interpretate the title slightly different: create an ass like a rock, a tummy like a rock…
Sexy bitch – David Guetta He can see ya and wants to meet ya for sure when you keep up this good work! Damn, you’re so absolutely a sexy bitch!
Your sex is on fire – Kings of Leon I LOVE this song! Your sex is absolutely gonna be on fire doing these routines, boys are gonna form rows to get to you!
So keep going, girls! Please feel free to share your personal favourite work out songs in the comments, I’m always eager to find new ones!
They’re like two men finishing 2nd and 3rd at the 100 meter sprints who, subsequently, bind their legs together and, because they believe they’ll be faster now, ask for a second chance.
– Dan Lyons (in his blog Secret Diary of Steve Jobs) about Microsoft’s try to beat its competitor Google by trying to buy Yahoo.
I think this quote is so strong, you can apply it to many occasions in your own life as well. You will not beat your competitor by combining the second and third best, you will only beat the number one by actually becoming the better yourself, by becoming a number one yourself.
Some stuff to think about on this early Monday morning 😉
It may not be the first thing you expect from a fashion junkie, but I love reading. Ever since I was a little girl I read dozens of books a year. Personally, I always like to read what other people are reading, so when I came back from the library today I thought it might be fun to share the books with you! Even though the books I currently read are in Dutch (a welcome break from a whole year in English..), I believe most of them are available in English as well!
On top we find the second book from Stieg Larsson’s Milennium series and I am halfway through it already. I LOVE IT! Those books are seriously the best literary thrillers of all time. They’re só complicated, with a lot of storylines creating a spiderweb of information. It’s really journalistic with almost an overload of information and what makes them even more unique is that everytime you think you know who the bad guys and good guys are, you will be proven wrong in the next chapter. The first in this series is ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo’ and the second ‘The girl who played with fire’-that’s the one I’m reading at the moment. However, I like the Dutch title of the first book better (=P), which would be, translated into English; ‘Men that hate women’.
Then we find two books about the Internet. One is about Google, the biggest provider of information at the Internet. I’m interested in it because of my studies (I’m studying International Business and Management at the University of Groningen, as some of you might know), I’ve been told several times about their special business policies e.g. their company is more like a playground than an office. It made me curious about the philosophy behind this huge entity! The second is called ‘Bloghelden’ which means Blogging Heroes (however, it’s NOT a translation of the English book Blogging Heroes!). Cynthia, from the succesful Dutch beautyblog Miss Lipgloss recommended this book in one of her movies to all people who own a blog themselves. So we’ll see if it contains useful information!
Then two biographies wich I bumped into, one about Audrey Hepburn and one about Coco Chanel. Both were sophisticated, very succesful and independent women and I am sure they’ll have something interesting to say which I can learn from!
In between is a little book about the Swedish language. I don’t exactly know why it’s fascinating me so much lately (might have something to do with Stieg Larsson and Kenza’s blog) but I would love to learn Swedish. In addition, last weekend I created a summer bucket list with a friend (I’ll write an article about it soon) and one of the points was to ‘learn something’ this summer. So, maybe this is a nice start? 😉
On the bottom there are two novels. Mrs. President is a chicklit, nice for the upcoming holidays in Greece and the other one is ‘Haantjes’ by Kluun (the man behind the success story ‘Komt een vrouw bij de dokter’ or in English ‘Love Life’ (the book) and ‘Stricken’ (the movie). I’m curious for his other books so I decided to take this one with me as well!
Which books are you reading at the moment and what are your recommendations?
Went to Amsterdam with Caroline last week. We did some shopping (sure you’ll find an outfit of it soon at savemywardrobe!) and enjoyed Amsterdam as real tourists. Yeah, we’ve got a henna tattoo. Couldn’t resist it and well.. it IS pretty funny to do crazy things every now and then. Well, not something I would ever do for real, but I love to do things like this in the summer 😉 In this pic we’re kind of imitating the bulldog’s face with our own, haha!
You know those days that you feel totally uninspired, down and without any sparkle of life? I do. In addition, I had one today. And yesterday actually. I think it has something to do with getting used to the huge amount of freedom summer holidays suddenly bring. So.. what are we gonna do about it?
Besides the spare time, I usually have those days when there’s a significant list of ‘things to do’ somewhere pretty well hidden in my brain. A list filled with things I’d rather love to forget about because I don’t like them. For me it usually consists otu of phone calls I have to make, things I have to settle regarding study finance and other bills and loans from friends that are still open. So a good start towards enjoying our holidays would be to transfer this list to paper. And then trying to finish those things within a day. Of course there will be new obligations but by finishing those that are on the list for a while now, you really clear your mind and enable yourself to make a new and fresh start.
When we’ve done those obligations it’s time to create an inspirational environment. So TIDY and CLEAN your house/room. It may not be the most exciting task there is, however in some cases it can be very challenging (;-)) and it definitely has great results. Throw away everything you don’t need any longer you’ll see that throwing things away can give you such a great feeling after all! A clean and tidied house is really the basis for a clear mind, how cliche but the absolute truth. Now that we started this huge operation, let’s do the closet as well. What’s more fun than finding back those great lost clothes and trying them on again. Moreover, I always find the best new combinations while re-organizing my closet. In this case as well: throw away the clothes (and socks and underwear!) that are too old, too outworn or which you haven’t worn in ages.
I am sure your wash basket has burst in the meantime, so one of our last steps is washing the clothes and sheets. Nothing feels better than sleeping between crispy sheets and having the choice of all fresh washed clothes stapled perfectly on the shelves.
The last steps towards a better feeling about ourselves are really applicable to ourself. Get out of the house for some sports and some fresh air. You’ll see it does you well. I always feel so much better about myself when I did some sort of workout that day, even though it wasn’t the most effective one. Everything is better than nothing, right? And really in the case of workouts.. As a treatment you are allowed (no obliged!) to take a long relaxing shower afterwards, give yourself a manicure and pedicure, apply loads of bodymilks etc. Sure you will feel better now!
I guarantee you that you’ve thought of a million greater things to do while cleaning your ass out, so good luck with that! Let me know how it went!
